The light for the room guests see first. A wide flower of fluted pressed glass sits close to the ceiling on a short antique brass stem — and when it's lit, the ribs scatter the glow into a soft petal pattern across the ceiling. The hallway stops being a corridor and starts being an entrance.
Will it fit? Almost anywhere — that's the point. The shade is Ø 30 cm and the whole fitting drops just 24 cm from the ceiling, so it clears a standard 2.4 m hallway, landing or entrance with headroom to spare. Suits spaces up to about 10 m².
Fitting it. It replaces an existing ceiling fitting, using the wires already there — no new wiring. The E27 bulb is included, in the right warmth, so it glows the evening it goes up.
The glass is clear and deeply ribbed; the brass is finished with an aged patina that reads as found, not bought.

The material
Clear fluted glass, on aged brass.
Run a finger across the shade and the flutes are deep enough to catch a nail: pressed glass with real weight to it, on a stem and ceiling rose finished in aged brass, warmer and softer than bright plating. The glass is clear, so the bulb is part of the picture. Fit a warm filament globe and it sits behind the ribs like a small fire, which is exactly the look you want in a hallway at dusk.
After dark
It doesn’t just light the hallway. It decorates the ceiling.
The deep ribs of the glass take one warm bulb and scatter it into a radiating petal pattern across the ceiling, the kind of quiet theatre a plain ceiling light can’t manage. By day it reads as glass and brass; by dusk it’s the reason people look up.
Fitting it
A straight swap for the old fitting.
Semi-flush is the trick: all the character of a pendant, dropping just 24 cm from the ceiling, so it clears a standard 2.4 m hallway with room to spare. It replaces an existing ceiling fitting on the same wires, and the aged brass ceiling rose covers the connection. No new wiring, no chasing walls, no rewire.
- Turn the power off and take down the old fitting.
- Match live to live, neutral to neutral, on the existing wires.
- Fix the ceiling rose, then hand-tighten the glass, never with a tool.
- Fit a warm filament E27 bulb and restore the power.
Fitting a light where there is no ceiling point already, or if you are not comfortable with the wiring, is a job for an electrician.

Do I need an electrician?
No new wiring is needed. It replaces an existing ceiling fitting on the same wires, and the aged brass ceiling rose covers the connection. Only a light in a brand new position needs an electrician.
Will it fit a low hallway ceiling?
Yes. It is semi-flush and drops just 24 cm from the ceiling, so it clears a standard 2.4 m hallway with room to spare. You get the character of a pendant without losing the headroom.
What size room does it suit?
The 30 cm shade is made for hallways, landings, entrances and box rooms, spaces up to about 5 m². The full dimensions and a scale drawing are in the photos.
The glass is clear, so will the bulb look bare?
That is the point of a fluted glass shade. The deep ribs take a warm bulb and break it into a soft petal glow rather than a hard point, and a warm filament globe behind clear glass is exactly the vintage look the piece is after. We would fit a warm-white E27 filament bulb.
Which bulb does it take, and do I need to buy one?
It takes a standard E27 bulb, the everyday screw fitting, so there is no proprietary bulb to hunt down and it is easy to replace years from now. Fit a warm-white filament globe to get the full effect through the clear glass.
Will the brass look rich or cheap?
It is an aged brass patina on the stem and ceiling rose, warmer and softer than a bright plated finish. The tone varies subtly piece to piece, which is what gives it the look of something that has always been in the house.
Can I dim it?
Yes, with a dimmable LED bulb on a compatible dimmer switch. Worth doing in a hallway you like soft in the evening. The fitting itself has no dimmer built in.
Will the glass arrive safely?
The shade is thick pressed glass and it is packed to travel. On the rare occasion a piece arrives marked or chipped, send us a photo and we will replace it or refund it under our 30-day returns, from a UK address, with no return trip to a depot abroad.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
We ship within the UK, with free delivery. We are a UK shop and returns come back to a UK address, not overseas.
